Played every year since 1917 — through two World Wars, earthquakes, and a pandemic — the San Francisco City Championship is the nation's oldest municipal golf championship: the draw, the wind off the Pacific, and whoever earns their place on the municipal turf of Harding Park and Lincoln Park.
The City is contested across six divisions, from a 168-strong Championship field to handicap-flighted match play named for the legends of the game. The Men's Championship is invitational — enter by exemption or through the pre-qualifier — while every other division is open entry. All of it is handled here on AmateurGolf.com; choose your division below.

San Francisco City Championship — frequently asked
How do I enter the San Francisco City Championship?
Every division is entered online through AmateurGolf.com. Most divisions are direct entry: choose your division on this page, complete your entry and payment, and you are in the field. The Men's Championship is invitational — apply with an exemption or earn a spot through the pre-qualifier. Entry fees are pay-as-you-go: your fee covers your guaranteed rounds, and players who advance pay for additional rounds. A current AmateurGolf.com membership is required; non-members can join in the same checkout.
When does registration open and close?
For the 2027 championship, registration runs October 1, 2026 through February 16, 2027. Men's Championship applications open October 1 for exempt players and November 15 for all other well-qualified applicants. No late entries are accepted. Fields are capped per division and some fill before the deadline, so enter early.
What divisions are offered?
Six: the Men's Championship (invitational — enter by exemption or through the pre-qualifier), the Women's Championship and Women's Senior (50+) — one registration covering both divisions — Men's Senior (55+), Men's Super Senior (65+), and handicap-flighted Open Flights for every level.
Where is the championship played?
On the municipal courses of San Francisco — primarily TPC Harding Park and Lincoln Park — every March. Qualifying and match play run across roughly three weeks.
