San Francisco City 2027 Men's Championship

The Men's Championship is the City’s demanding test of both scoring and head-to-head golf. Its municipal roots reach back to 1917; Ken Venturi, George Archer and other future major champions helped build a tradition that gives this event significance well beyond an ordinary weekend tournament.

The competition

A 148-player field plays 36 qualifying holes across Harding Park and Lincoln Park; 64 advance to match play. The championship match is 36 holes. Players and caddies must walk. See the official entry criteria for exemptions and selection; an application is not a guaranteed place.

2027 playing schedule

Qualifying: March 6–7. Match play: March 13–14 and 20–21, with the final on March 21. Reserve the later weekends if you advance.

How to prepare

Harding’s cypress-lined fairways and guarded approaches reward positioning. Our advice: practice a reliable tee shot and a conservative recovery option, then adjust your risk-taking to your opponent once match play begins. Prepare for the physical demands of a long championship day.

In 2026, Joey Hayden defeated Will Hardy 3 and 2 in the final after qualifying as the No. 21 seed—a useful reminder that qualifying position does not decide the trophy.
