Mid-Amateur Golf Tournaments

Mid-amateur golf is the post-college amateur game — events restricted to players 25 and older, built for competitors balancing golf with careers. The calendar runs from state mid-ams through the invitational circuit (Crump Cup, Coleman, Azalea) to the U.S. Mid-Amateur. This page tracks every upcoming mid-am tournament we cover.

Mid-Amateur FAQ

What is a mid-amateur golfer?

A mid-amateur (or "mid-am") is an amateur golfer 25 or older. The category exists so post-college amateurs can compete against their peers rather than college players who practice full-time. The USGA uses 25+ for the U.S. Mid-Amateur and U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur.

How do I qualify for the U.S. Mid-Amateur?

Entrants must be amateurs 25 or older with a Handicap Index of 3.4 or lower. Most of the field comes through 18-hole qualifying rounds held around the country in late summer; exemptions cover past champions, recent USGA championship performers, and top-ranked mid-ams.

What handicap do you need for mid-amateur tournaments?

Elite mid-ams like the U.S. Mid-Amateur require a 3.4 Handicap Index or better, and top invitationals are effectively scratch fields. State mid-amateurs commonly accept mid-single-digit handicaps, and some regional mid-am events flight the field so higher handicaps can compete.

Can mid-amateurs play in regular amateur tournaments?

Yes. Mid-am is an age floor, not a ceiling — a 30-year-old can enter any open amateur championship, including the U.S. Amateur. Mid-am events simply exclude players under 25.
