The Winter Series

While the rest of the country puts the clubs away, the best amateurs in the West keep score. Four championships, December through February, at premier California courses — Stanford, Del Monte, Pacific Grove, and San Juan Oaks.

Before the Tour, they wintered here

These aren't casual off-season events. Winter Series fields are stacked with college stars, elite juniors and hardened mid-amateurs — and the alumni list proves it. PGA Tour winners Max Homa and Collin Morikawa competed in these championships on their way up. Win one of these in a February crosswind and you've beaten a real field on a real course.

    Winter Invitational

    The season opener: 36 holes of stroke play that sets the tone for the winter. Recent editions have gone to the wire — a playoff-tested field from the first tee.

    Christmas Classic

    Del Monte Golf Course · Monterey, CA

    The longest-running event we host — two competitive rounds on Del Monte, the oldest course in continuous operation west of the Mississippi, in the heart of the Monterey Peninsula.

    54 holes on Stanford's championship layout — the strongest field of the winter, with more than twenty editions of history and a champions list that reads like a future-pros watch list.

    Pacific Grove Championship

    Pacific Grove Golf Links · Pacific Grove, CA

    The winter finale on the "poor man's Pebble Beach" — an oceanside links where February wind decides the champion as often as the putter does.

What is the Winter Series?

Four individual stroke-play championships AmateurGolf.com runs each winter at premier Northern California courses: the Winter Invitational (San Juan Oaks), the Christmas Classic (Del Monte), the Silicon Valley Amateur (Stanford), and the Pacific Grove Championship. Together they keep competitive amateurs sharp from December through February.

Who plays these events?

National-caliber amateur fields — college players, elite juniors, mid-amateurs and reinstated amateurs. PGA Tour winners including Max Homa and Collin Morikawa competed in these championships on their way up.

What is the format?

Individual stroke play, 36 to 54 holes depending on the championship, with gross prizes and full results published on AmateurGolf.com — live scoring, final leaderboards, and the results archive.

How do I register?

Registration for each championship opens in the fall on its tournament page. Every card on this page links to the event — when entries open, the Register button appears there automatically.

Do these events count toward rankings?

Yes — results feed the AmateurGolf.com national rankings, and fields are covered with live scoring and full editorial recaps.
