The road to Shinnecock Hills begins in April as 110 local qualifying sites and 13 final qualifying venues are set.
The United States Golf Association has announced the complete slate of local and final qualifying sites for the 126th U.S. Open Championship, which will be contested June 18–21, 2026 at historic Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York.
From mid-April through early June, thousands of professionals and elite amateurs will attempt to earn one of the most coveted spots in golf — a place in the national championship.
As the USGA proudly states, the U.S. Open remains “the most open championship in golf.”
The qualifying structure consists of two stages:
Nine U.S. sites will host final qualifying on June 8, famously known as “Golf’s Longest Day.” Golf Channel will again provide extensive live coverage of the 36-hole marathon.
The 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont accepted 10,202 entries, marking the fourth time in history that entries exceeded 10,000. The previous record was 10,187 in 2023 at Los Angeles Country Club.
Expect another massive number in 2026.
Local qualifying begins April 20 and concludes May 18. California leads the way with 14 sites, followed by Florida with 13.

History proves it can happen.
Only Ken Venturi (1964) and Orville Moody (1969) have won the U.S. Open after advancing through both qualifying stages.
Others — including Gene Littler, Julius Boros, Jerry Pate, Steve Jones, Michael Campbell, and Lucas Glover — won after surviving final qualifying.

The dream remains very real.
The 2026 championship will mark Shinnecock Hills’ sixth U.S. Open and its place as the only course to host the championship in three different centuries.
Past U.S. Opens at Shinnecock:
Founded in 1891 and designed by William Flynn in its modern form, Shinnecock is one of the five founding USGA clubs and home to America’s first clubhouse.
Every year, hundreds of elite amateurs tee it up in local qualifying — college All-Americans, mid-amateurs, state champions, club pros, and scratch players chasing a dream.
The U.S. Open is one of the few global sporting events where:
…can all begin their journey the same way — at an 18-hole qualifier.
That accessibility is what makes it special.
