Live results from all 109 U.S. Open Local Qualifying sites. Site-by-site medalists, amateurs, and alternates
The United States Golf Association has announced the complete slate of local and final qualifying sites for the 126th U.S. Open Championship, which will be contested June 18–21, 2026 at historic Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York.
From mid-April through early June, thousands of professionals and elite amateurs will attempt to earn one of the most coveted spots in golf — a place in the national championship.
As the USGA proudly states, the U.S. Open remains “the most open championship in golf.”
The qualifying structure consists of two stages:
Nine U.S. sites will host final qualifying on June 8, famously known as “Golf’s Longest Day.” Golf Channel will again provide extensive live coverage of the 36-hole marathon.
The 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont accepted 10,202 entries, marking the fourth time in history that entries exceeded 10,000. The previous record was 10,187 in 2023 at Los Angeles Country Club.
Expect another massive number in 2026.
Local qualifying begins April 20 and concludes May 13. California again leads the way with the highest concentration of sites, while Florida remains one of the deepest and most competitive qualifying states in the country.

The dream remains very real.
The 2026 championship will mark Shinnecock Hills’ sixth U.S. Open and its place as the only course to host the championship in three different centuries.
Past U.S. Opens at Shinnecock:
Founded in 1891 and designed by William Flynn in its modern form, Shinnecock is one of the five founding USGA clubs and home to America’s first clubhouse.
Every year, hundreds of elite amateurs tee it up in local qualifying — college All-Americans, mid-amateurs, state champions, club pros, and scratch players chasing a dream.
The U.S. Open is one of the few global sporting events where:
…can all begin their journey the same way — at an 18-hole qualifier.
That accessibility is what makes it special.

Local Qualifying for the 2026 U.S. Open runs from April 20 through May 13, with 109 sites across 46 U.S. states, Canada, and Mexico. The largest single-day wave is May 11 with 24 sites; May 4 features 18 sites.
Local Qualifying is the first stage of a two-stage qualifying funnel. It's an 18-hole stroke play event at over 100 sites. Each site offers a fixed number of qualifying spots — typically 2 to 7 — based on field size. Top finishers advance to 36-hole Final Qualifying. Any player with a USGA Handicap Index of 0.4 or better is eligible to enter.
The medalist is the player who posts the lowest score at a qualifying site. The medalist receives no special prize beyond bragging rights and automatic advancement; co-medalists share the title when multiple players tie for the lowest score.
An alternate is a player who finishes just outside the qualifying spots. First alternates can replace any qualifier who withdraws before Final Qualifying. Alternate positions are typically resolved by sudden-death playoff when multiple players tie for the spots immediately below the qualifying number.
Yes. Any amateur with a USGA Handicap Index of 0.4 or better is eligible to enter U.S. Open qualifying. Amateurs play the same Local and Final Qualifying gauntlet as professionals. Local Qualifying is the first stage — 18 holes at 109 sites in April and May. Final Qualifying is the second stage — 36 holes in one day at 13 sites worldwide on May 18, May 25, and June 8. Survivors of Final Qualifying join exempt players in the 156-player U.S. Open championship field at Shinnecock Hills.
The lowest single round of the 2026 Local Qualifying season is amateur Caleb Tipton's 11-under 61 at Nashville Golf & Athletic Club on May 11, winning medalist honors by seven strokes. Other notable rounds include amateur Stephen Cerbara's 63 (−9) at Medford Village (NJ) on April 27 and Chad Sewell's 62 (−10) at Carlton Woods (TX) on April 27.
The 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont received 10,202 entries — the fourth time in history entries exceeded 10,000. The previous record was 10,187 in 2023 at Los Angeles Country Club. The USGA expects another massive number for 2026.
2026 U.S. Open Local Qualifying is the first stage of the USGA’s two-part qualifying process for the 126th U.S. Open Championship at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. Conducted across more than 100 sites in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, local qual...
