Lahinch, County Clare — Connor Graham turned a pedestrian opening round into a runaway medalist finish Thursday at the South of Ireland Amateur Open, firing a tournament-record-tying 62 in the second round of stroke play qualifying at Lahinch Golf Club.
The Blairgowrie player vaulted 44 spots up the leaderboard to claim a share of the qualifying lead at 11-under 133, matching the total of Matthew McClean of Malone, who posted rounds of 66-67. Graham's second-round 62 — matching nines of 31 on the Old Course — erased a triple-bogey 7 at the fourth hole Wednesday that left him at 1-over 71 after the opening round.
