Just a year after a golf cart accident threatened his career, Dawson Lew completed a remarkable comeback by capturing the 121st Canadian Men's Amateur Championship with a three-shot victory at Mickelson National Golf Club in Calgary, Alberta.
The 16-year-old Toronto native closed with a 3-under 69 to finish at 17-under 271, adding the Canadian Men's Amateur title to the Canadian Junior Boys Championship he won in 2025. In doing so, the Team Canada NextGen member became just the ninth player to win both national championships.
Lew entered the final round tied for the lead with Calgary's Tobias Buffam, and the two traded blows throughout the front nine. Lew birdied the opening hole while Buffam bogeyed to take an early advantage, but the lead was briefly erased after Lew bogeyed the seventh and Buffam birdied.
The turning point came on the back nine. Lew regained the lead with a birdie at the ninth before Buffam stumbled with a double bogey on the 12th and another bogey on the 13th, allowing Lew to build a three-shot cushion that he never relinquished despite a bogey of his own on the 13th.
"I try not to worry about who I am playing with," Lew said. "My main goal is to hit good targets off the tees and into the greens and commit to every shot."
Lew finished the week with one eagle and 20 birdies, while Buffam settled for runner-up at 14-under 274. Calgary's Brett Jones and Jean-Philippe Parr of St-Célestin, Quebec, shared third at 12-under 276.
Inter-Provincial Team Championship
Earlier in the championship, Team Quebec reclaimed the Willingdon Cup, winning the Inter-Provincial Team Championship for the ninth time with a 36-hole total of 12-under, one shot ahead of British Columbia.
