Valspar Collegiate: Luke Clanton of Florida State continues his winning ways

This win earns Clanton a spot in the 2025 Valspar Championship and helped lead the Seminoles to the team win

Luke Clanton of Florida State ran away from the talented field at the 2024 Valspar Collegiate Invitational at The Floridian in Palm City, Fla., for his second straight tournament win this season.

Clanton finished 14-under and five shots clear of the field after carding rounds of 65-68-66 to complete the wire-to-wire win. He recorded a final round 5-under 66, consisting of eight birdies and three bogeys. Clanton got scorching hot after making the turn, 

With the win, Clanton earns an exemption into the 2025 Valspar Championship.

Clanton is currently ranked No. 6 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings. He is coming off a win at the Seminole Intercollegiate, a T11 finish at the Jones Cup, a T7 finish at the Watersound Invitational, and a T8 finish at the Amer Ari Invitational

Clanton is the first Seminole to win consecutive tournaments since national golfer of the year John Pak in 2020. This is the 100th win in school history for Florida State.

Matthew Riedel of Vanderbilt and Christian Castillo finished T2 at 9-under, five shots behind Clanton. Wenyi Ding of Arizona State finished in solo fourth place at 8-under, and Austin Greaser of North Carolina finished in solo fifth place at 7-under, rounding out the top five. 

In the team competition, Florida State finished 19-under to beat Vanderbilt by four shots. Vanderbilt finished 15-under and in solo second place. The Seminoles carded rounds of 280-278-275 to pull away from the field. 

Arizona State finished in solo third place at 10-under, Arkansas finished in solo fourth place at 9-under, and Oklahoma finished in solo fifth place at even par.

Duke finished in solo sixth place at 1-over, Wake Forest finished in solo sixth place at 3-over, and North Carolina finished in solo eighth place at 4-over.

The Floridian, designed by Gary Player in 1996, was the private course of Wayne Huizenga and was recently sold to Jim Crane. The course has been redesigned by Tom Fazio, with a re-opening in November of 2011. Butch Harmon has signed on to build a Harmon Golf School at the Floridian.
