The Shore Course at Monterey Peninsula Country Club, originally designed by Seth Raynor, was given a complete redesign by architect Mike Strantz and his firm Maverick design. They removed 45 acres of ice plant and capped the entire course with sand as part of an intricate drainage system that allows the course to be playable all year. All 18 holes were rerouted. The remodel was completed in March of 2004; Strantz was battling a rare form of tongue cancer throughout the process and passed away in June of 2005, but not after leaving his mark on the Monterey Peninsula.
