The LPGA Q-Series is the LPGA Tour's annual qualifying tournament. It opens with 54-hole Pre-Qualifying at three regional sites in late September, moves to the 72-hole Qualifying Stage at Plantation Golf & Country Club in Venice, Florida in October, and ends with the 90-hole Final Qualifying Stage at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove in Mobile, Alabama, where the top 25 and ties earn LPGA Tour status.

No other qualifier carries the same decision for amateurs. College stars can advance through Venice while still amateurs, but Final Qualifying is open to professionals only — so a spot earned there can only be taken by giving up remaining eligibility and turning pro. Every October a handful of the best players in the women's amateur game face exactly that choice, and we follow each of them here.

LPGA Q-Series — frequently asked

What is the LPGA Q-Series?

The LPGA Qualifying Series is the LPGA Tour's three-stage qualifying tournament — Pre-Qualifying, the Qualifying Stage and Final Qualifying — that determines LPGA Tour and Epson Tour membership for the following season. It runs from late September through November.

How many LPGA Tour cards are awarded?

Under the current format the top 25 finishers and ties at Final Qualifying earn LPGA Tour status for the following season, with priority set by finish position. Every player who completes at least four rounds at Final Qualifying earns Epson Tour status.

Can amateurs play in the LPGA Q-Series?

Amateurs can enter Pre-Qualifying and the Qualifying Stage. Final Qualifying is open to professionals only, so an amateur who advances from the Qualifying Stage must declare professional status before competing — the decision that ends a college career.

Where are the stages played?

Pre-Qualifying rotates among regional sites (recently Indian Wells, California; LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida; and Houston, Texas). The Qualifying Stage is played on the Bobcat and Panther courses at Plantation Golf & Country Club in Venice, Florida, and Final Qualifying on the Falls and Crossings courses at the RTJ Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove in Mobile, Alabama.
