Tim Sheppard of East Peoria completed a memorable comeback on and off the course, firing a tournament-low 3-under 68 to win the 40th Illinois State Senior Amateur Championship at The Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Club in Rockford.
Sheppard finished at 1-over 214 (76-70-68), one shot ahead of Mark Small and two-time champion Scot Frankenreider. The victory gave the 65-year-old his third Illinois State Senior Amateur title and his 10th CDGA-administered senior championship.
