Tankersley, Trolio leads Ole Miss to opening round lead at Puerto Rico Men's Classic

Cameron Tankersley and Cohen Trolio are T2, while Brett Schell of North Florida leads the individual competition by one shot

The top-ranked Ole Miss Rebels shot a team round 16-under 272 to take the lead after the opening round at the 2025 Puerto Rico Classic at The Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

The Rebels hold a two-shot lead over host school Purdue, who are 14-under and in solo second place.

Oklahoma is in solo third place at 13-under, South Carolina is in solo fourth place at 11-under, and Virginia is in solo fifth place at 8-under. 

Ole Miss won twice last fall to gain momentum heading into the spring season.

In the individual competition, Brett Schell of North Florida shot a bogey-free 7-under 65. He started 5-under through his first nine holes, with birdies on holes No. 2, 5, 6, 8, and 9. 

Cameron Tankersley of Ole Miss, Cohen Trolio of Ole Miss, and Kent Hsiao of Purdue are T2 at 6-under, and just one shot back of Schell.

Tankersley is currently ranked No. 40 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings. He recently finished T10 at the 2025 Jones Cup Invitational. Trolio faced off against Nick Dunlap in the 2021 U.S. Junior Amateur.

Sam Easterbrook of Oklahoma State, Ryder Cowan of Oklahoma State, Paul Chang of Virginia, and Joe Wilson IV are all T5 at 5-under. 20 golfers are within four shots of the lead, and 43 golfers shot rounds under par. 

According to Brentley Romine of the Golf Channel, a virus is spreading around the tournament, making at least six players vomit and as many as ten players sick.
