HELSINKI, Finland (August 23, 2014) -- Since we don't speak Finnish (anybody?) we won't be able to provide you much color about how the final round went down in Helsinki. But we can tell you that -- as you can see on the international pro tours -- the level of golf in Nordic countries is quite good, and winning your national championship, as Lauri Ruuska did today, is a huge achievement.
Ruuska posted a final round of 1-under 70 to hold off Lukas Lipold of Austria by one shot. Lipold was two back heading into the 17th and made things interesting by grabbing a birdie there, and cutting Ruuska's lead in half. When both players took par on the final hole, a par-5, the title belonged to Ruuska who plays out of Tarinagolf.
Ruuska was runner-up in the Finnish Amateur last year.
