It was the third time the tournament saw a new leader at the end of the day, but Cooper's name will get etched on the perpetual trophy as the 2023 champion.
Yu did everything he could to catch Cooper, matching his birdies on Nos. 14, 15, and 16 before giving a shot back with a bogey on the par 3 17th. Still, he put up a birdie on No. 18 to apply the pressure, but Cooper avoided a playoff with his par.
At 10-under for the tournament, the Coastal Carolina University golfer from Chesnee, South Carolina kept the Rice Planters title in his home state.
ROUND TWO SUMMARY
Max DuPree is the new leader at the Rice Planters Amateur.
The College of Charleston golfer started out solid with two straight birdies, and stayed that way all day. He closed with a flourish, making eagle on No. 17 and birdie at the last hole to shoot 67. DuPree has a one-shot lead over three players, including a local player named Will Ovenden that plays out of Snee Farm, and Connor Brown (UNC Greensboro) and Yin Ho Yue (University of Oregon).

The 51st Rice Planters Amateur is underway, and Charlie Bundy has taken the early lead with a 7-under 65.
Bundy, who just finished a stellar freshman year at the College of William & Mary, has golf in his blood. His father, Phil, played golf collegiately at Wake Forest and was a member of the 1986 NCAA Championship Golf Team.
