Mossy Oak: Auburn wins for the seventh time this season and fourth time in a row

J.M. Butler and Brendan Valdes of Auburn finished as co-medalists as the Tigers won by a dominating 34 shots

In one of the more dominating performances of the season at the 2024 Mossy Oak Collegiate Championship at Mossy Oak Golf Course in West Point, Miss., Auburn won for the seventh time this season, the fourth time in a row, by 34 shots over the field. 

The Tigers shot 46-under with rounds of 271-270-277 to secure the wire-to-wire win. Auburn shot the three lowest rounds of any team and was the only team to break 280 in any rounds. 

This is the fourth win in a row for the Tigers and a program-record seventh win this season. The Tigers recently took back the top spot in the Bushnell/Golfweek D1 Coaches Poll this week.

Ole Miss finished in solo second place at 12-under, and Cincinnati finished in solo third place at 8-under. Mississippi State finished in solo fourth place at 6-under, and Liberty finished in solo fifth place at 5-under.

In the individual competition, J.M. Butler and Brendan Valdes of Auburn shared the co-medalist honors, finishing 12-under with identical rounds of 68-69-67. The star duo for Auburn defeated the field by two shots. 

Valdes is ranked No. 21, and Butler is ranked No. 26 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings

All six Auburn players finished inside the individual top seven, with spots one through five all being swept by the Tigers. Jackson Koivun finished in solo third place at 10-under, Carson Bacha finished in solo fourth place at 9-under, and Josiah Gilbert finished in solo fifth place at 7-under. 

Up next, Auburn will look to win for the fifth consecutive time as it heads to the 2024 SEC Championship, which will be held April 24-28 at Seaside Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Ga.
