Dalton Dean wins Desert Amateur at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes

Lynnwood, Wash. native claims two-stroke victory in a rain-shortened tournament

Wet conditions at AK-Chin Southern Dunes over the weekend made Dalton Dean feel right at home and after 36-holes, Dean is returning to Bellevue, Wash. with the Desert Amateur championship in hand.

Dean, who plays collegiately at Bellevue College, carded rounds of 67 and 68 to finish at 9-under 135 which was good for a two-stroke victory over UCLA team members Pablo Ereno (Spain) and Omar Morales (Mexico) in the rain-shortened event.

"The driver and short irons were clicking on all cylinders which made it a pretty stress-free tournament," said Dean. "The course was in great shape with the amount of rain during the first round. Being from Washington definitely helped me to stay calm and composed during the rounds. I want to thank Ak-Chin’s grounds crew for keeping the course in tip-top shape.”

Saturday's 36-hole day was suspended just after 3:00 pm local time due to wet conditions caused by record rainfall in Maricopa. The persistent rain continued into Sunday morning and the committee was forced to shorten the event when it was determined a third round wouldn’t be completed by the required deadline of Sunday at sunset.
