Piecheng Chen
Peicheng Chen etched his name into New York golf history on Wednesday, defeating AJ Cavotta in a playoff at Bethpage Black to capture his second New York State Open title and become the first player to win the championship as both an amateur and a professional.
The St. John's graduate and assistant professional at Rock Hill Golf & Country Club carded rounds of 70-73-68 for a 2-under 211 total. Cavotta, of Saratoga Springs, matched him at 2-under after rounds of 75-67-71, sending the championship to extra holes on one of the country's most demanding layouts.
