Lowe rallies from eight back to win New York Men's Amateur by three strokes

MGA eClub member fires closing 65 to overtake Chapman at Glens Falls and claim first state title

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. — Matthew Lowe began Thursday eight strokes behind, standing at even par while Christian Chapman commanded the lead at 8-under. By day's end, the 30-year-old from MGA eClub – Long Island had authored one of the great comebacks in the championship's 103-year history, posting rounds of 67-65 over the final 36 holes to win the New York State Men's Amateur at 10-under 274.

Lowe's closing 65 — six birdies against a lone bogey at Glens Falls Country Club — gave him a three-stroke victory over Lucas Rizo-Patron of Pelham Country Club, who posted 71 in the final round to finish at 7-under 277. Chapman, who had led by four at the halfway mark, faltered with rounds of 71-74 over the final day to finish third at 5-under 279.
