No. 64 seed Ethan Fang continues his Cinderella run as well, defeating No. 33 Zach Adams 2 and 1 in the round of 32
Nine of the top ten seeds from stroke play have been eliminated at the U.S. Amateur Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.
Jackson Buchanan, a standout at Illinois this season who won the Duck Invitational and finished in solo second place at the Big Ten Championships, defeated Luke Clanton 1 up. Clanton led 1-up through 14 holes, but Buchanan won holes No. 15 and 16, and the pair halved the final two holes to give Buchanan the win. Clanton had a birdie attempt to win, but it just missed on the low side.
Clanton is currently ranked No. 1 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings.
With Clanton's loss, the marquee grouping of stroke play has been eliminated. Clanton, Gordon Sargent, and Jackson Koivun have all lost.
Another round-of-32 upset was West Virginia Amateur champion Christian Brand, who took down No. 2 seed Ethan Evans one-up and held off Evans on the final five holes.
