The Prestige: Texas Tech takes the early lead after the opening round

Tyran Snyders leads the Red Raiders at 6-under, sitting in solo first place and one shot better than four golfers
Even though three-time defending champion Ludvig Aberg has graduated from Texas Tech and moved on with his professional career, the Red Raiders and Tyran Snyders still impress at The Prestige at PGA West, the Greg Norman Course in La Quinta, Calif.
After round one, Texas Tech leads the team competition by three shots over Kansas State and Washington at 13-under 271. Kansas State and Washington are T2 at 10-under 274. Louisville is in solo fourth place at 7-under 277, and Kansas is in solo fifth place at 6-under 278.
Colorado State is in solo sixth place at 3-under 281, and Duke is in solo seventh place at 1-under 283 to round out the teams that shot under par.
In the individual competition, Snyders leads four golfers by one shot after his round of 6-under 65. Snyders recorded a flawless round, carding four birdies and an eagle against no bogeys.
2023 U.S. Junior Amateur Champion Bryan Kim of Duke is one of four golfers that trail Snyders by one shot at 5-under. Petr Hruby of Washington, Ethan Evans of Duke, and Connor Jones of Colorado State.

Snyders has transitioned his solid golf from the fall over to the spring after making the final 32 in the 2023 British Amateur, finishing T2 at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, and recently, finishing T3 at the Southwestern Invitational. Due to his recent play, Snyders has risen to No. 161 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings.
Six golfers are T6 at 4-under, and two shots back of Snyders. 24 golfers are within four shots of the lead.
