One of California's Municipal 'gems' was completely renovated in 2003 with former USGA President Sandy Tatum playing a major role in bringing the City of San Francisco and other parties together to make it happen. The course played host to the 2005 American Express Championship, and was received with glowing praise by Tour players and the golfing media. Tiger Woods defeated John Daly in a playoff that ended on the short par-4 16th, where Daly missed a 3 foot par putt.
