Pasadena City Championship
The Pasadena City is a historic championship that dates back to 1929 and has long been one of Southern California's most prestigious tournaments. After a one-year hiatus the tournament is back in full force for 2020. A WAGR counting event and SCGA Player of the Year points tournament. Proceeds from the Championship will support youth development programs for the First Tee of Greater Pasadena.

The Championship Flight is an open flight (no age limit) conducted over 54 holes. The field will be cut to the top 30% and ties after 36 holes, to play the finals on Course #1 Sunday.

Net Flights are open to all players 18 or older with 12-month low handicap index ranging from 3.1 to 21.4. Entrants with higher indexes must play down to a 24 handicap. The field will be divided into six flights to play over 54 holes. Cut after Saturday rounds to 30% and ties for all flights. Finals for all Net Flights are to be played on Course 1 on Sunday.

Pasadena City Championship History

This tournament started in 1929 and has been played each year at Brookside.

Although early records are not definitive, at some point in the late 1960s or early 1970s the tournament format changed to mirror todays professional tournament format. Changes included 72 holes of medal play now conducted over four days on both of Brookside’s courses. The cut is made after 36 holes. Handicap divisions were also added about that same time and played over 36 holes.

In the early 1980s, John McGraw and Rob Moore were named tournament co-chairmen. Under their skillful leadership the number of entries increased dramatically each year, and now averages 250 players in the scratch division and 360 golfers in the handicap flights.

John McGraw is no longer with us and is greatly missed, but his memory and the high standards he set are the inspiration for all current committee members.
