Kai Hirayama won the 2024 Pasadena City Championship at Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena, Calif., on the fourth sudden-death playoff hole.
Hirayama, a senior at Temple City High School and University of Cal-Berkeley Men’s Golf Team commit, won the championship over Cole Kim, a high school sophomore from La Crescenta, Calif. Hirayama and Kim both finished at 3-under to force the playoff, with Kim making a birdie on No. 17 to get to back to 3-under after bogeying holes No. 15 and 16.
Hirayama shot rounds of 69-67-75 to get to 3-under, while Kim shot rounds of 70-66-75.
Logan Kim finished in solo third place at 2-under, while Andrew Cornell, Luke Bailey, and Bryant Hernandez all finished T4 at 1-under. Five golfers finished T7 at 1-over.
This year’s city championship experienced unusual weather, with rain on day two and a freak thunder, lightning, and hail storm on day three that suspended play for an hour before the players were able to finish their rounds.
The Pasadena City is a historic championship that dates back to 1929 and has long been one of Southern California's most prestigious tournaments. This is a SCGA Player of the Year points tournament, and proceeds from the Championship will support youth development programs for the First Tee of Greater Pasadena.
In its prime location, Brookside Country Club sits on the Brookside Golf Course next to the world-famous Rose Bowl. Brookside Golf Course features two 18-hole championship courses, the C.W. Koiner Course and the E.O. Nay Course. Both courses are used for the historic Pasadena City Amateur, one of Southern California's premier City Championships.
