Kyle An defends his Pasadena City title in tough conditions at Brookside

The UCLA freshman survives a tough weekend at Brookside Golf Club as the only player under par

UCLA freshman Kyle An went wire-to-wire to win the 87th Pasadena City Men's Golf Championship, successfully defending his title.

The course was wet on the first day after over four inches of rain fell in the preceding three days in what has been a historically wet season in Southern California. Fortunately, the tournament was blessed with three dry, mostly sunny albeit cool days.

Players contended with unusually low temperatures and high afternoon winds each day, particularly on Sunday when only one player in the field, runner-up Mitchell Fedorka, was able to match par.

With high winds, fast greens and deep rough on the last day, the famous CW Koiner course was an extraordinary challenge. In the end, An persevered with a 75 to finish the 54 holes at one under par, two shots ahead of Fedorka.

Ryan Kyaw finished third at 2 over, while Jesse Arian and Scotland Schmidt tied for fourth at 5 over par.

Eight-time champion Tim Hogarth, 56, finished 19th.
