MISSION HILLS, Kan. — Ben Wheeler holds a one-stroke lead through two rounds of stroke play qualifying at the Kansas Amateur Championship, positioning himself for the top seed when the tournament shifts to its match play bracket later this week.

Wheeler stands at 8-under par through 36 holes at Mission Hills Country Club, one clear of Asher Whitaker, the 2024 champion who became the youngest winner in 97 years when he claimed the title at 17. Whitaker sits at 7-under entering Wednesday's final qualifying round.
