The Seminoles, who won this event last year, were coming off a win in Mobile, Ala. After opening with 3-over 291 at Golden Eagle Country Club in Tallahassee, Fla., the team score got progressively lower. A final-round 11-under 277 was the lowest round of any team all weekend. At 12 under total, however, Florida State was one behind Wake Forest.
The Seminole Intercollegiate title is Wake Forest’s second consecutive win this season.
"It was very close down the stretch but we played some great golf to finish," said head coach Jerry Haas. "We played the two par 5s, No. 15 and No. 18, very nicely and were 8 under as a team over the last four holes. The wind came up a little bit for the final groups and it was our day for the victory. I am so proud of these guys to win their second straight trophy. It was a great way to start the spring."
After a rough start in the final round, second-round leader Jacksonville righted the ship and put the finishing touches on a final-round 2-over 290 that left them tied for third with West Virginia. Both teams were 10 under.
Two players tied for the individual title, including Wake Forest’s Parker Gillam and Jacksonville’s Thomas Thurloway, who won the English Amateur over the summer.
