VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Virginia Amateur Championship began Monday at Bayville Golf Club, with competitors facing 36 holes of stroke play qualifying over two days to determine the 32 players who will advance to match play.

After Tuesday's second qualifying round, the field will be cut to the low 32 scorers, who will then compete in a match play bracket beginning Wednesday. The format mirrors recent editions of the championship, which has produced a string of compelling finals in recent years.
