VIDEO: Alex Schaake Goes Back-to-Back at Nebraska Amateur

He is the 8th player to successfully defend his title, with a record final round and a seven shot margin

BEATRICE, NE (July 30, 2017) - Alex Schaake turned the 109th Nebraska Amateur Championship into a rout Sunday, finishing with a seven-under 65 and a seven-shot win at Beatrice Country Club.

In winning last year's championship, Schaake made a little history by becoming the first junior to win the Nebraska Amateur since in over a decade.

This year he made more history, becoming the 8th player to win back-to-back championships. His final round of 65 set a record, and his total of 18-under 270 was the second-lowest 72-hole total ever at this event.

Like last year, the University of Iowa golfer carried a four shot lead into the final round. But unlike last year when he saw his lead evaporate before winning on the final hole, Schaake put the field away after birdies on the 7th, 8th, and 10th extended his lead to eight shots.

Michael Colgate of the University of Nebraska closed with a 68 to finish runner-up at 11 under 277. Noah Hofman of McCook (68) finished solo third at 9 under.

61-year-old John Sajevic of Fremont, who opened with two straight rounds of 68 to hold the halfway lead, finished with a 70 to take fourth place alone at 8 under.
