USF Intercollegiate: Loyola Marymount leads after two rounds

The Lions shot a day's low round of 16-under in the second round to catapult into the lead.

Loyola Marymount used a huge second-round burst to jump into the team lead entering the final day of the USF-Howard Intercollegiate at TPC Harding Park Golf Club in San Francisco, Calif.

After winning the opening tournament of the season, the Lions sit at 23-under and lead San Francisco by six shots and third-place Santa Clara by nine shots.

San Francisco is at 17-under, and Santa Clara is at 14-under. New Mexico and Princeton sit T4 at 10-under as a team.

The Lions shot the day's low round of 272 after opening the tournament with a 281.

The Lions used 27 of their tournament-high 45 birdies to jump four positions in the second round to overtake the lead after Monday's play concluded. The Lions were the only team to shoot under par on Par-4 holes, finishing at 7-under on such holes.

In the individual competition, JP Odland of Santa Clara and Riley Lewis of Loyola Marymount are tied at the top at 9-under. Odland shot rounds of 69-66, and Lewis shot rounds of 67-68.

Jakob Melin of San Francisco is in solo third place at 8-under.
