CRESWELL, OR (July 12, 2017) - On day one of match play at the Pacific Northwest Amateur hosted by Emerald Valley Golf and Resort nine of the top-10 seeds advanced to the Round of 32.
Things weren't easy for medalist winner and top-seed Sam Foust as he moved on with a tight 2&1 victory over recent Summit High School graduate No. 64 Richie Mikesell.
Foust, a junior at Oregon, won the 2nd hole of the match and led the rest of the way before closing out the tilt on the 17th hole.
Two-seed Edwin Yi, also a member of the Oregon golf team, had an easier go on Wednesday winning his Round of 64 match 3&2 over No. 63 Mark Strickland of West Washington University.
The other top-10 seeds to advance include No. 3 Henry Lee, No. 4 Reid Hatley, No. 5 Carson Barry, No. 6 Chase Carlson, No. 7 Derek Bayley, No. 8 Drew McCullough and No. 9 Brian Mogg.
The only top-10 seed to fail to advance past the first round of match play was No. 10 Calvin Green
