Top-seeds advance on Day One of Pacific NW Am Match Play

Play will continue Thursday at the Emerald Valley Golf and Resort with the Rounds of 32 and 16

CRESWELL, OR (July 12, 2017) - On day one of match play at the Pacific Northwest Amateur hosted by Emerald Valley Golf and Resort nine of the top-10 seeds advanced to the Round of 32. Things weren't easy for medalist winner and top-seed Sam Foust as he moved on with a tight 2&1 victory over recent Summit High School graduate No. 64 Richie Mikesell. Foust, a junior at Oregon, won the 2nd hole of the match and led the rest of the way before closing out the tilt on the 17th hole. Two-seed Edwin Yi, also a member of the Oregon golf team, had an easier go on Wednesday winning his Round of 64 match 3&2 over No. 63 Mark Strickland of West Washington University. The other top-10 seeds to advance include No. 3 Henry Lee, No. 4 Reid Hatley, No. 5 Carson Barry, No. 6 Chase Carlson, No. 7 Derek Bayley, No. 8 Drew McCullough and No. 9 Brian Mogg. The only top-10 seed to fail to advance past the first round of match play was No. 10 Calvin Green
