Timothy Jung wins the Sizzler Amateur at Arizona's Talking Stick G.C.

Jung, of Corona, Calif. fired a final round 65, then won a playoff on the first extra hole

Timothy Jung used a final round 5-under par 65 and tournament total of 9-under to work his way into a playoff at the Sizzler Amateur at Talking Stick Golf Club (O’odham Course), which he promptly won over Ethan Korock of Jonestown, Texas with a par on the first extra hole.

Jung, from Corona, Calif. plays for the University of the Pacific. He birdied three of his first four holes to immediately become a factor, and only made one bogey.

Three players all finished just one shot out of the playoff.

Robby Keilch (Newport Beach, CA), Hunter Swanson (Denver, CO), and Damon Vilkauskas (Mesa, AZ), all finished at 8-under. Vilkauskas’s 7-under 63 was the low round of the day.

Ryan Voois (Ladera Ranch, CA), a 36-hole co-leader with Korock, finished another shot back at 7-under after a few late bogeys sidelined his chances. The first (and ultimately only) playoff hole was the par-4 18th. Jung hit his approach to approximately 50 feet with Korock in the greenside bunker. Korock hit his bunker shot to 15 feet. Jung hit a spectacular lag putt to a tap-in, not unlike the approach putt of Wyndham Clark on the final hole of the U.S. Open. When Korock couldn’t convert his par save, Jung became the champion.

“This win means a lot to me," said Jung. "I haven’t played that well so far this year, so this win is definitely a confidence builder."
