The Dunes Medal: Wesley Hinton completes wire-to-wire victory

Queensland’s Wesley Hinton wins men's title, while Jazy Roberts claims the women’s title

Queensland’s Wesley Hinton capped a dominant week at The Dunes Medal with a wire-to-wire victory, closing at 5-under 283 to win by two shots at The Dunes Golf Club on the Mornington Peninsula. Hinton opened with superb rounds of 68–68, built a six-shot lead through 54 holes, and held steady with 73–74 over the final two rounds to keep Heatherton’s Abel Eduard at bay. Eduard (73–72–70–70) finished runner-up at 3-under, while defending champion Max Moring missed the cut by a single stroke after rounds of 76–76.

The win continues a stellar season for Hinton, who has now collected four titles—NextGen Amateur Tour Noosa Springs, Queensland Amateur Classic, the Gary Player Classic, and The Dunes Medal—alongside three other top-10s in just 12 starts. The men’s field featured 154 top amateurs, with 47 progressing to the weekend.

Melbourne’s Jazy Roberts claimed the women’s title with a composed 1-under 291, posting rounds of 72–71–74–74 to win by five shots. Perth’s Amie Phobubpa finished second at 4-over after rounds of 76–73–71–76. Thirty-one players competed in the women’s field.

The Dunes Medal has long been a proving ground for elite talent, with past champions including Jason Day (2005), Minjee Lee (2013) and Hannah Green (2014)—all of three of them are now major winners.
