Tennant Cup: James White wins by three

James White cards an impressive three-shot victory in the Tennant Cup at Glasgow Golf Club

GLASGOW, SCOTLAND (June 19, 2011) -- Lundin’s James White helped continue Fife golf’s dominance of the domestic circuit this season with an impressive three-shot victory in the Tennant Cup at Glasgow Golf Club this weekend. The 23-year-old posted a six-under par aggregate of 276 to clinch his second SGU Order of Merit event title and joins Fife team-mates Greg Paterson and Brian Soutar as winners in 2010, on the back of Fife’s first ever win in the Moneygate Scottish Area Team Championship last month. White, a recent University of Stirling scholarship graduate, shared the first round lead with Peterhead’s Philip McLean after an opening two-under par 69 on the Glasgow Gailes course. He moved into a four-shot lead at the halfway stage after second round 68, before closing out victory with rounds of 71 and 68 over Killermont on Sunday. McLean, who earlier in the week had missed out on a place in the match play stages of The Amateur Championship by one shot after a poor finish to his second round in the qualifying stages, bounced back well from his Hillside heartache to earn a share of second spot on 279, after two consecutive rounds of 69 on the final day. Glenbervie’s Graeme Robertson, a former university team-mate of White, surged into a contention with a superb five-under par 65 in the third round and joined McLean in the runners-up spot after finishing with a 68. Chilean golfer Horacio Leon earned fifth place after posting a level par tally of 282, two ahead of Newmachar’s John Duff, a quarter-final in last year’s Scottish Amateur Championship at Gullane. Duff’s North East compatriot David Law, fresh from a top ten finish in the Paul Lawrie
