Stuck on a number: Jake Marler wins Louisiana State Amateur at 9-under

For the fourth year in a row, the winner of the Louisiana Amateur won with a score of 9-under par

Jake Marler of Shreveport was named the champion of the 104th Louisiana Amateur Championship, firing a one-under 71 in the final round.

Marler held the second and third-round leads. After 72 holes, Marler finished the tournament at 9-under and a 279 total gross score.

It can be noted that this is the fourth year in a row that the winner of the Louisiana Amateur Championship finished with a 279 total gross score.

Marler made a birdie on the par-5 first hole and then played the rest of the final round at even par to keep the field at arms length. He made 18 birdies and nine bogeys in the tournament total.

Jay Mendell of Lafayette and Hunter Battles of Ruston finished T2 at 6-under while Kyle Bennett of Zachary finished in solo fourth place at 5-under. Bennett shot a 65 in the final round, the championship's low round.

The top four golfers separated from the field, as Grayson Glorioso of Metairie and John Humphries of Woodworth finished T5 at 2-under.

Marler, a collegiate golfer at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, is the first player since 1996 from his alma mater to win the Louisiana Amateur.
