PALM COAST, Fla. — After carding 68 on day one to lead by three, College of Charleston senior Logan Sowell scattered two bogeys and three birdies across the course on Sunday to shoot 71 and lead by two heading into Monday's final round at the First Coast Amateur.
Sowell, who tied for ninth at this event last January, won the Puerto Rico Classic a month later to secure an individual victory for his Cougars — his first collegiate win.
Trailing two back is Orlando native and East Tennessee State golfer Trevor Hulbert, whose bogey-free 65 on Sunday catapulted him from eight back into the final group. He birdied four of his first six holes en route to a front-nine 31, seven strokes better than his day one total on the opening nine.
Three players are three back in a tie for third place, including 2019 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball semifinalist Troy Vannucci. The 27-year old from Marlton, N.J. posted a simple, three-birdie 69 on day two and will join Sowell and Hulbert, as well as Juan Iturra in Monday's final group.
Iturra, an assistant men's golf coach at Flagler University in nearby St. Augustine, Fla., has rounds of 72 and 70 to his name, as does Tyler Leach, a Marquette University sophomore who rounds out the men in third place.
Two-time champion Cole Bradley (2018, 2020) fought back after a 77 on Sunday to shoot 71 and is in a tie for 23rd place.
