Silvester Tan and Sheridan Clancy crowned Western Australia Amateur champions

Drake University graduate Tan wins men's title with a birdie on the final hole while Clancy secured the women's title

Silvester Tan and Sheridan Clancy triumphed at the 2025 Western Australia Amateur Championship, securing the men’s and women’s titles at Sun City Golf Club in Yanchep.

Tan, a Royal Perth Golf Club standout and Drake University graduate, edged WA state captain Connor Fewkes 1UP in a thrilling final. The decisive moment came on the 18th hole when Tan executed a brilliant up-and-down from the bunker, sinking a clutch birdie putt to seal victory.

His journey was anything but easy. In the Round of 16, he rallied from one down with three to play against Riley Schafer, sealing the match with a birdie at the last. That resilience carried over to the semi-finals, where he edged Adam Baillie 1UP in another tense battle.

Fewkes, the tournament’s second seed, entered the final as the favorite after dismantling Liam Sullivan 5&4 in the morning semi-final. He looked in control with a two-hole lead by the 8th, but Tan clawed back, keeping the pressure on.

The match was squared at the par-three 17th after both players made nervy pars, setting up a dramatic finish. At the risk-reward par-five 18th, both went for the green in two but found the front bunker.

Tan played first, producing a brilliant sand save to four feet. Fewkes’ shot rolled long, and when he missed his par attempt, Tan confidently drained his birdie putt to claim the title.

Tan now eyes the PGA Tour of Australasia Q-School next month with the WA Amateur crown in hand.

Clancy's grit helps her win women's title

Sheridan Clancy capped off an unforgettable week with a hard-fought 1UP victory over top-seeded Molly McLean in the women’s final.

The 19-year-old, seeded second, breezed through the early rounds but faced a stern test in the semi-finals against defending champion Kathryn Gan. After a match full of momentum swings, Clancy prevailed 1UP on the 18th hole, setting up a much-anticipated clash with McLean, who had defeated Georgia Garner-Dart 2 & 1 after setting a course-record 65 in stroke play.

The final started explosively, with McLean surging to a three-hole lead through four. Clancy responded emphatically, winning four straight holes from the 6th, including a spectacular eagle at the par-five 9th, to take the lead.

She extended her advantage at the 13th, but McLean fought back, winning the 14th and 15th to level the match.

The turning point came at the par-three 17th. Clancy fired her tee shot to five feet while McLean missed the green left, leaving her chip short. Clancy capitalized, rolling in her birdie to regain the lead.

Needing a steady finish, Clancy made a composed par on Sun City’s treacherous closing hole to secure the title.

With the WA Amateur trophy in her hands, Clancy looks ahead to greater challenges in the months to come.
