SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Only eight players remain at the San Francisco City after a long day in wet and rainy conditions.
Cal Berkeley redshirt sophomore Stephen Griggs handled the conditions quite nicely, tallying three birdies on his way to a 7&6 victory over his teammate Ben Doyle. Griggs will face Marcus Potter who took out former University of San Diego standout Jake Yount 4&3.
Also advancing were two high school golfers, Daniel Connolly and Raj Chekuri. Chekuri, a Foothill High School junior, moves on to face Ben Peters who is on a roll after taking out the medalist Dominic Salomone in the 2nd round.
Connolly, a SMU commit, continued his strong play with a 4&3 win over Aaron Chen. He'll take on Bobo Olson who defeated Cal Bear Clayton Madey 3&2.
Matt Grush and Noah Shiek will face off in the remaining quarterfinal match. Matches will begin 7:30 Sunday morning and will be the last matches held at Presidio as the Semifinals are to be played at Harding Park.
