Orlando International Amateur: Michael Mays and Carson Baez lead after Round One

Scores were low in round one, with 23 golfers shooting under par to open the tournament

Through 18 holes of the Orlando International Amateur at Mission Inn Resort, the El Campeon Course, in Howey In The Hills, Fla., Michael Mays and Carson Baez lead the field after two rounds of 5-under 67.

Mays recorded a bogey-free round with five birdies, while Baez had seven birdies but a double bogey on the par-5 No. 14. Mays was 1-under through the front nine but got hot on the back nine and birdied Holes No. 10, 12, 16, and 18. 

Mays plays collegiately at Florida State University, while Baez has committed to play for the University of Richmond.

Josiah Gilbert is in solo third place at 4-under, and Jack Gilbert is in solo fourth place at 3-under. 23 golfers finished under par in the first round and currently, six golfers are T5 at 2-under, and 12 golfers are T11 at 1-under. 

The Orlando International Amateur Championship is an annual golf tournament gathering high-level amateur golfers from the United States of America and abroad. It is a 54-hole stroke play championship played over three days. 

The championship is open to low-handicap amateurs, players who play college golf, players who have qualified for any of the current year's USGA or R&A championships, and those who have the recommendation of their country’s Federation or Association.
