Consecutive rounds of two-under par 70 gave Wallace S. Nelson a slim one-stroke victory over Russell Nielson and Clark Collier

EL PASO, Texas (Sept. 28, 2014) — Consistency won the New Mexico-West Texas Mid-Amateur for Wallace Nelson on Sunday. He made two bogeys over 36 holes. shooting consecutive rounds of two-under par 70 to win the event by one stroke per Russell Nielson and Clark Collier. Collier was one shot ahead of Nelson after the first round with a 69, but fell back into a tie for second place after an even-par 72 on Sunday. Nielson shot 70-71 and made two bogeys down the stretch in the final round. Daniel Medina placed fourth and was the only other player to finish the 36-hole event under par. He shot 71-72. First-round leader Cyrus Whitney shot 68 on Saturday only to falter to a 78 and drop into a tie for seventh.
