NC State held its nerve down the stretch to win the Michael A. Marino Classic, posting 15 under 849 (284-280-285) for a four-shot victory at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club.
The Wolfpack were the only team in the 16-team field to finish under par in all three rounds, separating themselves on the final day. After starting Tuesday tied with Louisville at 12 under, NC State delivered the best round of the day, a 3-under 285, to pull clear.
No. 33 Louisville, the 2024 champions, finished runner-up at 11 under 853 (282-283-288), while host Coastal Carolina placed T-3 at 3 under 861. Auburn, last year’s defending champion, did not compete.
The event, formerly known as the General James Hackler Championship, was adjusted due to expected weather conditions. The Dunes Golf & Beach Club, a par-72 layout measuring 7,269 yards, hosted the tournament for the 12th straight year.
In the individual competition, Louisville junior Cooper Claycomb (68-68-70) and Coastal Carolina senior Max Bengtsson (72-63-71) shared medalist honours at 10 under 206.
NC State placed two players inside the top 10. Sophomore Xander Goboy led the way with a T-4 finish at 8 under 208 (70-67-71), while sophomore Pearce Lewin finished sixth at 7 under 209 (69-70-70).
