The Miami Redhawks men’s golf team, featuring Cameron Pero, Morgan Blythe, Michael Weber, Matthew Mattioli, and Brett Podobinski, posted a team total of 7-under 857 to secure victory in the second Kapolei Invitational at Kapolei Golf Course in Kapolei, Hawaii.
The Redhawks recorded rounds of 287-287-283, pulling away with a 13-stroke margin over San Diego, who finished in second place at 6-over after rounds of 287-291-292.
Entering the final round, Miami was tied for the lead with host Hawaii, both teams posting 36-hole scores of 287-287 and 285-289, respectively, to sit at 2-under 574. However, Miami’s final round, featuring a combined 5-under par, with 11 birdies on the front nine alone, proved decisive despite seven bogeys and a double bogey.
Sophomore Morgan Blythe led the charge with a 2-under final round, ending the tournament in a tie for second place individually at 3-under 213.
The Redhawks dominated several tournament stats, leading with 53 birdies and posting the best Par 4 average at 4.13. They also ranked second on Par 3 scoring at 3.10, just behind Utah Valley, who averaged 3.07.
In the individual competition, Utah Valley’s sophomore Dane Huddleston claimed the title with a 6-under 210 after rounds of 67-75-68, finishing three strokes ahead of a tight field of five runners-up.
