Mexican National Amateur: Echavarria dominates

Echavarria, who plays collegiately at the University of Arkansas, shot rounds of 69-68-70-65 to finish 16-under and 12 shots better than the nearest competitor

Merida, Yucatan, Mexico (June 8, 2014) -- Nicolas Echavarria of Colombia fired a final-round 7-under 65 to pull away and complete a dominant run to the title at the 2014 Mexican National Amateur at Yucatan Country Club. Echavarria, who plays collegiately at the University of Arkansas, shot rounds of 69-68-70-65 to finish 16-under and 12 shots better than the nearest competitor. He led by four heading into the final round but caught fire with eight birdies, including five on his front nine, to pull away and never look back. Jorge Garcia of Venezuela was second, shooting rounds of 72-72-67-73 while Juan Carlos Serrano shot 7-69-74-73 to finish solo third.
