Stewart Hagestad, Brandon Holtz, Bobby Massa and No. 2 seed Zach Foushee are all gone, and the eight men who survived Tuesday's 36-hole grind on The Lido form one of the more unusual quarterfinal fields in the 45th U.S. Mid-Amateur's history.

There's a Sand Valley caddie who pulled his calf on the 11th hole and still won. There's a dentist who used to loop at Oakmont. There's a homebuilder from the Tetons who changed his first name so the USGA would stop mixing him up with a four-time champion, then knocked Hagestad out. And there are six former professionals, now reinstated amateurs, among the final eight.
