ST. ANDREWS, Scotland (June 11, 2017) - Despite a wobbly finish to the final round Matthew Jordan was able to capture the St. Andrews Links Trophy on Sunday on the Old Course at St. Andrews.
Jordan started the final round in grand fashion with five birdies in his first 12 holes to reach 14-under and with just six holes remaining the native of England seemed to be in control.
However, near disaster stuck down the stretch as Jordan bogeyed three-times, including on each of the final two holes to fall back to 11-under before ultimately holding on to win by a stroke.
The victory for Jordan comes on the heels of a torrid stretch of golf so far in 2017 that has produced a second place showing at the Scottish Open Amateur, a fifth place finish at the Brabazon Trophy, a tied for fourth performance at the Irish Open Amateur, a tied for seventh finish at the Lytham Trophy and an eighth place showing at the Hampshire Salver.
John Ross of Ireland tried to track Jordan down but despite a closing birdie he finished second at 10-under, Australia's Ben Ferguson took third at 9-under while England's Laird Shepard, Andres Gallegos of Argentina and David Boote of Wales shared fourth at 8-under.
