Luke Jerling wins Prince's Grant Amateur

Luke Jerling has won the Prince's Grant Amateur by three-strokes over Matt Saulez

STANGER, ZA (May 4, 2016) - Luke Jerling has won the Prince's Grant Amateur by three-strokes over Matt Saulez. Jerling finished the 72-hole event 3-under after rounds of 71-70-71-73 at Prince's Grant Golf & Country Estate. In the final round Jerling, 1-over for the day, was able to minimize the damage although things looked shaking for a while. Jerling, a former Lamar University player, was even for the round after the front nine but bogeyed three of the first four holes on the back nine. Fortunately, he was able to right the ship with a birdie on No. 16 and then par the final two holes sealing the victory. Matt Saulez who finished in second place started the day 5-under but struggled to a closing 5-over 77, completing the tournament at even-par. Despite two bogeys on the front side Saulez was still in a position to win, and after a birdie on the 12th it looked as if Saulez might survive his front nine struggles. Then disaster struck, on the par-5 15th Saulez double-bogeyed to drop back to 2-under for the tournament. Still with a chance Saulez bogeyed the final two holes, going 4-over on the final four holes of play. Last years winner Andrew van der Knapp (+2) finished third while it was Brandon Cloete and Aneurin Gounden both 9-over tied for fourth.
