BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Charlie Kulwin of Chicago seized the Illinois State Amateur Championship with a brilliant five-hole stretch in Thursday's final 18, posting four birdies from holes 11–15 to finish at 2-under 282. The run—featuring birdies at 11 (par 4), 13 (par 3), 15 (par 3), and 16 (par 4)—vaulted Kulwin past 36-hole co-leaders and into a three-shot victory after the grueling 36-hole finale.
Kulwin was a full seven shots back starting the final round, and was the first to tee off the first hole.
