Justin Hastings fires tournament record to win Coronado City Championship

The San Diego State junior did not record a bogey all weekend, posting 14-under and eclipsing Sahith Theegala's 12-under record

After finishing runner-up last season, Justin Hastings shot 14-under to win the 2024 Coronado City Championship at Coronado Golf Course in Coronado, Calif., by four shots.

Hastings shot a first-round 6-under 66 to sit T2 heading into the final 18 holes, where he shot a tournament-best 8-under 64 to take the lead and inevitably pull away from the field. The most impressive stat from Hastings was no bogeys through the 36-hole championship. He recorded 14 birdies.

This was a tournament record for Hastings, breaking a 10-year record held by PGA Tour winner and President's Cup participant Sahith Theegala, who shot 12-under in 2014.

Hastings shot 5-under and finished T2 last year, three shots behind the winner Skyler Ngo, who finished 8-under. The San Diego State standout is currently ranked No. 33 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings

Hastings is a junior at San Diego State and has amassed an impressive resume thus far. He is a two-time PING All-West Region and a two-time All-Mountain West selection. He also finished T5 at the 2024 Northeast Amateur and T24 at the 2024 Western Amateur.

Nathan Sampson finished in solo second place at 10-under, and Harry Takis finished in solo third place at 9-under. Josh Gliege finished in solo fourth place at 8-under, and Shea Lague, Jackson Moss, and Kayden Wang finished T5 at 7-under to round out the top five.
