ATLANTA, Georgia (June 29, 2013) -- Year in and year out, the Dogwood Invitational showcases some of the top up-and-coming amateurs in the game of golf.
Judging by the rather impressive leaderboard, which featured 41 players in the red, it's safe to say that the 2013 field didn't disappoint. Rather, the scores near the top highlight perhaps the hottest players in the game with many players signing for cards that the rest of the golfing population could only dream of.
In the end, though, they were all looking up at Auburn's Michael Johnson, who used rounds of 64-69-63-64 to finish an eye-popping 28-under par and atop the leaderboard by seven shots. The 2013 champion was only in the mix entering Round 3 on Friday before throwing out a 9-under 63 before closing out a terrific week with an 8-under 64 final-round effort Saturday.
An incoming junior at Auburn, Johnson topped a terrific field.
Georgia Tech's Ollie Schniederjans signed for rounds of 63-69-67-68 to take second place. He was seven off the pace set by Johnson but five clear of Benjamin Griffin, who took third.
Griffin, of course, set the tournament's 18-hole scoring record with a ridiculous 11-under 61 on Wednesday. He finished 16-under after bouncing back from a 1-over 73 on Thursday.
Davin White of Georgia State was in the mix entering Saturday's finale but shot 71 to take fourth. He opened play Wednesday with a 64 and finished 15-under for the tournament.
Other notable finishers include: Peter Williamson (9th, 11-under), Tom Lovelady (19th, 8-under) and Brad Dalke (T24, 6-under),
