PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — On a chilly, windy day on Florida's east coast, the University of North Florida shot eight-over par 296 at Sawgrass Country Club to lead their host event — the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational — by a stroke over Oklahoma State.
UNF was led on day one by Taylor Hancock at even-par 72 while Alabama's Tom Lovelady leads individually at 70.
Oklahoma State received three 74s, including one from 2013 U.S. Public Links winner Jordan Niebrugge. They hold second place by two shots over UCLA and Alabama, and by four over Texas.
The 54-hole event concludes on Sunday.
